World oldest parents from Andhra Pradesh, India delivered twins, both parents are in the ’70s

The couple from Guntur, India, both in their 70s, had created an international excitement back on Sept. 5, when their baby girls — conceived through a donor egg and delivered by cesarean section — arrived full-term and healthy.

Not surprisingly, it’s now the babies’ elderly mother and father who are not doing so well.

Their newborn twins are fine, but not so for the “world’s oldest parents” — both are in intensive care.

And as the new parents — Mother is 74 and Father is 78 — rest in an Indian ICU, a new controversy is turning in the already ethically suspect case.

The doctor who checked the pregnancy is maintaining he was fooled into believing that the mother was in her 60s.

Dr Sanakkayala Umashankar told “It was only by chance, after she had conceived, that her husband let out accidentally to one of the nurses her real age,”  The Times of London.

Mother Erramatti Mangayamma has been in concentrated care since the delivery.

Husband of Erramatti Mangayamma(Wife), Raja Rao(Husband) on the other hand, started out strong, crowing to the press just hours after he and his wife became first-time parents.

“Due to the grace of God and doctors, I am the happy father of two baby girls,” Raja Rao expressed his happiness.

But a day next, he collapsed from a heart attack. He remains in the ICU at the Ahalya Nursing Home in Guntur, Andhra Pradesh, the Times reports.

His wife Erramatti Mangayamma is there, too. Doctors are not issuing information on their illnesses, except to say both are steady.

Born at just under five pounds each, both now weigh 5.5 pounds, according to the mother’s Mangayamma niece, Lakshmi Bhia, who told the Times that should the parents be weak to raise them, family members are ready to move in.

Why they took a decision before Pregnancy? :- They finally decided to adopt kids from the orphanage, Bhia said. But when they visited the Ahalya facility Hospital, Umashankar had another idea. “Instead of adoption, the doctor recommended IVF because my aunt’s physical health was so good,” the niece said.
