George Reddy was a research student in physics at Osmania University in Hyderabad, Telangana, India.
He was born in Kerala, Palakkad District, India, on 15 January 1947. In 1962 their family shifted to Hyderabad.
George Reddy used to say these words most times: “Jeena Hai Toh Marna Seekoh.”
He was found dead in the Osmania University campus hostel at the age of 25.
He completed his schooling at St. Paul School, Hyderguda, Hyderabad. His main goal was to get into the medicine stream. He got second rank in PUC exams. Even though he got second rank, he didn’t get a seat in medical college. Because he was not a local to a state or city. After that, he joined a BSc course.
He did his BSc graduation from Nizam College, Hyderabad. At the time of school, he had discipline, authority, and leadership qualities.
He completed his MSc in Physics in the year 1971, and he received a gold medal. He was a brilliant student. After completing his MSc, he struggled very much to enroll in a PhD because no professors were ready to recommend him due to his leadership activities; at last, he got enrolled in a PhD at Osmania University.
He also worked as a lecturer at A.V. College, Domalguda, Hyderabad, while doing his PhD course.
George Reddy was found dead on the Osmania University Campus, Hyderabad, Telangana, on 14 April 1972. He died at a very young age, only 25, as some reports published that the people related to the ABVP union killed George in his hostel room.
Even with the presence of the ABVP (Akhil Bharatiya Vidya Parishad) union in the university, George Reddy founded another union, PDSU because of that, and some other incidents occurred between the ABVP union and George’s PDSU. As a result, people related to the ABVP union killed George Reddy in front of students and teachers in daylight (as mentioned on some online websites).
Also, there are too many stories. The details of George Reddy’s death and the identity of his killer remain unclear. There are multiple stories available on the internet about George’s death. Don’t know what to believe.
He founded one union named PDSU (Progressive Democratic Students Union). PDSU’s main aim is to assist university students who are facing difficulties.

Many documentaries and movies are based on George’s life story. Mani Ratnam’s Yuva movie is based on George’s character, played by actor Surya.
In the year 2019, one more biopic on George Reddy, a movie titled George Reddy, directed by B. Jeevan Reddy, was released, and the main lead was Sandeep Madhav. The film was released on 22 November 2019.
