Bajaj Auto Ltd, India’s second-largest motorcycle producers, on Wednesday started its second innings in the scooter segment, almost after a decade’s gap, with the launch of its electric scooter — Chetak. The Pune-based company did not expose the price of the product and will announce it before beginning dispatches.

Bajaj ended manufacturing traditional scooters around 2006 or 2009 in order to concentrate on motorcycles.

Bajaj Auto today revealed the all-new Chetak electric scooter in India. The electric scooter returns back the iconic Chetak moniker in the country, albeit in a peppier and eco-friendly avatar.

To be manufactured at Bajaj Auto’s Chakan manufacturing plant, Bajaj Chetak electric scooter will be ready for retail sales from January 2020. It will also be shipped to European markets from next year

The latest Bajaj Chetak electric scooter boasts of an IP67-rated lithium-ion battery with NCA cells. The battery can be charged with a standard 5-15 amp electrical outlet.

There is an IBMS (Intelligent Battery Management System) that manages charge and discharge. Also, the customers can opt for a home-charging station. Bajaj Chetak will offer two driving modes — Eco (95 km range) and Sport (85 km range) — and a reverse assist mode.

Bajaj Chetak electric scooter arrives with sheet metal body panels and a tubular single-sided suspension. The powertrain performs the use of a single-sided cast aluminium swingarm, which houses the traction motor that drives the wheel through an automated gearbox. The scooter gets regenerative braking system as well.

It gets features like horseshoe-shaped LED headlight with DRLs, sequential scrolling LED blinkers and digital console. The new Bajaj Chetak electric scooter will appear with mobility solutions like data communication, security and user authentication.

The Chetak mobile app will help the rider by presenting an overview of all aspects of the electric scooter and its ride records (History).
